Georgie's Chickens
One thing I always loved was dogs. I always had a dog living at my house. They always lived outside in a dog house. Sometimes when there was no one to play with, dogs made good playmates. On a cold day, it is a good thing to crawl inside of the dog house and cuddle up with a furry friend.
At times I was a little jealous of the pets Georgie had. There were a lot of them and they had a special house and a fenced in yard. She always had chickens. In the spring they would buy a box of yellow fuzzy baby chicks. Georgie's Mom called them Peeps. I loved to be at the house when the Peeps arrived. It was so much fun to hold them and watch them run around. Believe me, they could be quite messy and we had to clean the floor up after them. At first they had to stay in a box with a light shinning on them to keep them warm.
Georgie did have to do some work to keep chickens. She had to feed and water them and collect the eggs from the hen house. Even in the winter when it was cold and snowy. Maybe it was more fun to enjoy your friends chickens than to take care of them yourself.
One year Georgie even got her picture in the small town Newspaper because of her chickens. She had one chicken that was so much bigger than the rest of the hens. Someone said it was as big as a horse, so she started calling it Horse. It was a funny name for a chicken and it sure made us laugh.
One day when Georgie went out to collect the eggs, there was Horse sitting on her pile of straw. Georgie had to push her aside to make her move. There in the straw, was the biggest egg you ever saw. It was huge. Only a chicken named horse could lay an egg that big. It looked ten times the size of a normal egg. Georgie's Mom called her friend that worked at the Newspaper, and sure enough, they came and took a picture of Georgie and that huge horse egg. The picture was in the Newspaper and at first I was jealous, but then it made me feel special to have a friend that was famous.
